I photograph television and so of course when I travel, it is EXTRA special! This was done last night in Bucharest. It is an ad for Ciuc (Shwee) beer. It starts with a guy in a supermarket picking out his Ciuc and then sees a display by another beer maker for a vacation contest. He puts away the Ciuc and buys another beer and then of course wins the contest! Only problem is that the contest prize is a vacation in Siberia next to an empty pool so the next frame shows him freezing his ass off. A bunch of guys in white coats like scientists or doctors come into the scene holding bottles of Ciuc as pictured here to tell you that you are just better off having a Ciuc! Ciuc is killer beer as are all Romanian beers. Romania makes the best beer that I have ever had.
Cheers : D
7 more shopping days until Christmas and in Romania it is all about portable technology.

Lunch today consisted of French Fries, a shot of Vodka and 2 Ursus. Maybe I should have taken this before I started drinking : )

After taking care of some last minute business at the university in Cluj, I found this great coffin store before having breakfast. This is particularly appropriate for our day which included a death-defying taxi ride to the airport in Cluj, followed by a flight on a tiny propeller driven plane to Bucharest (they serve shots of hard liquor in the boarding area). Once in Bucharest, we had a interesting encounter with the Romanian Taxi Mafia followed by another crazy cab ride. Romanian taxis make Miami driving look tame. I never get motion sick but after just one of these adventures, I feel like that I have been on a small boat in a storm at sea after eating a really greasy salt pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray. Now I am comfortably settled in my 4th home in the last 10 days, still living out of a suitcase. Tomorrow is Fulbright orientation. Time to be charming and diplomatic :)

Brunch in Cluj-Napoca. (September 30, 2010 at 11:00am)
French Fries and Ciuc. The menu was entirely in Romanian and this was the only thing that I could read. Ciuc is a Romanian beer and Romanians take their beer very seriously. They are huge and served ice cold. This was the second time that I have eaten at this establishment since arriving in Cluj. I have had the same waitress both times. She is incredibly patient and kind. She told me today that she wants to come to America. I hope she gets the chance.
